Development of an alternative control method against the walnut husk fly, Rhagoletis completa Cresson
For the past two decades this pest has appeared in Europe, causing significant losses in orchards. Currently the application of phytosanitary treatments is the most effective way to control this fruit fly.
My PhD project consists in the development of a new control method based on the use of semiochemical compounds such as fruit kairomones and sex pheromone of Rhagoletis completa.
My work is divided into several sections (1) the identification of chemical compounds, (2) the formulation of these compounds on attractive or repulsive diffusers, (3) the behavioral tests on flies in laboratory and finally, (4) field tests.
