Some insect groups are responsible for animal diseases. Medical entomology addresses several areas of research including biology of insect vectors of disease, the interaction of these vectors with their hosts, ethology or population dynamics. The development of control strategies and the control of these vectors  is an applied purpose of this discipline. The functional and Evolutionary Entomology Unit works on this discipline through different models:

Bedbugs

Mosquitoes and other Dipteran vectors

Forensic Entomology
