Sustainable development and growth of the Cahew Value Chain in Sierra Leone

The objective of the study is to describe and analyse the Cahew Value Chain in Sierra Leone using the tools and methods included in the DEVCO/C1 “Methodological support for analysis and development of inclusive and sustainable value chains”. This methodological framework elaborated by the European Commission includes an evidence-based largely quantitative, analysis toolkit. It consists of a robust diagnosis system to describe the state of affairs for the functioning of the chain (Value Chain system, technical diagnosis and governance) and the three dimensions of sustainability (economic, environmental, and social).
The experts will orientate their analysis along four leading questions: 1) What is the contribution of the Value Chain to economic growth ? 2) Is this economic growth inclusive ? 3) Is this Value Chain socially sustainable ? 4) Is the Value Chain environmentally sustainable ?

The diagnosis of the functioning of the VC will help the EC structuring their policy dialogue around the strategic issues that might hinder the sustainable development and growth of the cashew value chain in Sierra Leone. Throughout the functional, economic, social and environmental analyses, the experts will highlight the most relevant strengths, risks and opportunities in the value chain.
The diagnosis of the functioning of the Value Chain will help the European Commission structuring their policy dialogue around the strategic issues that might hinder the sustainable development and growth of the cashew value chain in Sierra Leone.
A multi-disciplinary team will carry out the study and cover together the Functional Analysis, and the Economic, Social and Environmental Analysis.
